That story fit a longtime conservative suspicion that poor people use food stamps to purchase luxury items. Now, a Republican state lawmaker in Missouri is pushing for legislation that would stop people like Greenslate and severely limit what food stamp recipients can buy. The bill being proposed would ban the purchase with food stamps of “cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood or steak.”
“The intention of the bill is to get the food stamp program back to it’s original intent, which is nutrition assistance,” said Rick Brattin, the representative who is sponsoring the proposed legislation.

I disagree…. Although, I don’t receive foodstamps, how do u stipulate what can be bought?
What if the person have a condition or dietary issues. Ex: A person with low iron and was informed by their PCP to intake more red meats for iron/protein.#IJS
Food stamps should only buy staple foods. No junk, no luxury.
In all of human history, no society ever sustained when one portion of its people were forced to support the other. We have failed once again.
I’m appalled at the amount of people who concern themselves with people who are on assistance and what they do with such….just be thankful you’re not in need…and yes some people take advantage….even rich people…but no one complains about corporate greed…why?? Because they got ya’ll trained to only concern yourselves with the poor ijs

In my opinion the food stamps should only be good for certain foods. If they don’t like it go get a job and then you can buy whatever you want. I’m tired of ppl not taking care of themselves yet expecting any and everything. Why should they be eating steak on MY dime when I can’t even afford to buy it for myself? Smh
There are families that have two working parents and are barely making ends meet…who don’t qualify for FS. Its heart breaking having to tell them no they don’t qualify. Those families don’t get elaborate meals like steak and lobster. I am a single parent and don’t qualify for the program. Most of the people getting them are selling them for cash and aren’t feeding their children the best meals.
Stfu and worry about getting these people a raise this country worries so much about what the next person is doing. Most asses the food you are getting from MCDONALD’S IS KILLING YOU THE MEDS YOU PUT IN YOU BODY IS KILLING YOU. Stop living off of stereotypes and open your damn eyes.
