The Supreme Court has found a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, striking down bans in 14 states and handing a historic victory to the gay rights movement that would have been unthinkable just 10 years ago.
Anthony Kennedy, a conservative justice who has broken with his ideological colleagues to author several decisions expanding rights for LGBT people, again sided with the court’s four liberals to strike down the state bans. The 5-4 majority ruled that preventing same-sex people from marrying violated their constitutional right to due process under the 14th Amendment and that the states were unable to put forth a compelling reason to withhold that right from people.
“It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage,” Kennedy wrote of same-sex couples. “Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves.”
“They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law,” he continued. “The Constitution grants them that right.”
The United States is now just the 21st country in the world to allow same-sex marriage in every jurisdiction.

  1. I’m a Pastor……and I would simply say….. I’m busy, it’s not that hard. If forced my sermon would speak about how I oppose it. They don’t want me officiating their marriage. I love all people but with TRUTH and deeds.

  2. If anybody has a child or close relative brother sister etc who is of the LGBT community u would see this as a something great !! But I understand if people don’t get it and disagree with it but it’s not the end of the world errbody can go back about they business
If u have nothing nice to say then don’t say it at all the world doesn’t need more negativity
!! I for one am happy for my friends and family members who I would do anything for !! They can now get married and it doesn’t mean they will but just having an option to do so and to not feel ashamed iz great !! Like I said when these people who disagree with it have a child which they love and would risk Thier Lives for come out as LGBT then they will see things differently ,.. love wins no matter black white Hispanic Indian male or female !!

  3. Riding the fence. I have gay friends whom I feel have the right to be happy even if I don’t agree . However on the legal side I think it contradicts our judicial system. If the people voted 76% oppose & state opposed why or how could the Supreme Court over rule …What about checks & balances

    1. The Constitution does not allow for states to discriminate based on bias and prejudice….so to say a certain group of folks can’t marry based on religious beliefs/personal preference is illegal

    2. The Constitution does not but we have checks & balances set up to mandate or keep the system in order. What that means is once the people vote (because again this is how our government is structured) and the house votes the Supreme Court should not over rule. It’s more about following procedure. It’s okay but let the votes count and when the votes reflect differently the change or apply law

    3. The people voting do not have the final say….all legislation must adhere to the U.S Constitution…..state laws cannot trump federal laws….not every state banned same sex marriage….but again it comes down to the 14th amendment which gives every citizen equal protection under the law….so even though some citizens want to stop gays from marrying it’s illegal to do so….because the state issues marriage licenses….the govt cannot discriminate on this matter….essentially this is what the ruling is saying

    4. Well as long as all are adults and consenting….who are we to say what others can’t do….personally I think this ruling will eventually remove government from marriage altogether…

  4. I was told if you have nothing good to say… Be quiet… Lord, you handle this mess!!! Government is agreeing to anything these days, But not agreeing to the right things!!!
