Chicago-based Central City Productions announces the first set of performers for the 9th Annual Black Music Honors set to take place at the renowned Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, May 18th.Black Music Honors is an annual event that celebrates the illustrious achievements and exceptional contributions of Black music icons.
Joining the previously announced honorees are performers: BLK ODYSSY, Chanté Moore, Donald Lawrence, Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, Ricky Dillard, MonoNeon, Shanice,The Chi (Carl Thomas, Dave Hollister & Syleena Johnson) and Tone Stith.
The ceremony will be co-hosted by singer and actress LeToya Luckett alongside comedic actor DeRay Davis and will honorJohnny Gill, Patrice Rushen, Bootsy Collins and Hezekiah Walker.
A night of black excellence awaits at the 2024 Black Music Honors where exceptional performances, heartfelt speeches and timeless memories will be etched in the hearts of viewers. The televised special will premiere on the Stellar Network Saturday, June 1 at 8pm EST with a rebroadcast at 10pm EST and air in national broadcast syndication June 8 – June 30 in tribute to Black Music Month. The show will also air on Bounce TV Wednesday, June 19th(Juneteenth) at 9pm EST. R&B Soul Picnic, the premier R&B DJ festival dedicated to soul healing and community engagement, is excited to announce its highly anticipated return with the Mother’s Day Edition, set to take place on May 11th and 12th, 2024. The festival will be held at its new home, Westside Park, marking the first major event to grace Atlanta’s largest and newest greenspace.
The R&B Soul Picnic is not just another music festival; it’s an experience aimed at providing a healthy outlet for attendees of all ages, involving community leaders, and fostering family togetherness through the power of soul and R&B music. Attendees can expect a day filled with live DJs, a food truck park, soulful music, engaging games, and an uplifting vibe.

Since its inception in April 2022, R&B Soul Picnic has grown significantly, and this year’s edition is expected to draw over 13,000 guests each day. BET Media Group revealed its inaugural late night live comedy series, premiering at BET Experience 2024 Presented by Walmart from June 26 to June 28 at the Miracle Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. From Comic View to The Ms. Pat Show, BET is excited to expand on its foundational role in amplifying Black comedic talent providing its audience yet again with much-needed laughter. Hosted each night by “Chris Spencer & Friends,” this series promises a unique blend of comedic brilliance and cultural relevance from today’s hottest comedians.
The series is set to kick off on Wednesday, June 26, with the talented, quick-witted funnyman Chris Spencerand friends, who will host the entire series and a soon-to-be-announced headliner. With a career spanning over three decades, Spencer has proven himself as a versatile entertainer across acting, writing, producing, directing, and stand-up comedy.
On Thursday, June 27, the one and only Michael Blackson takes the stage. With his signature comedic style and infectious energy, Blackson is poised to leave audiences in stitches with his unique perspective on life.
Closing out the series on Friday, June 28, is the incomparable Tiffany Haddish. A household name in comedy, Haddish’s unique humor and unapologetic authenticity are sure to captivate audiences and leave them wanting more.

Apple TV+ today unveiled the trailer for its new sci-fi thriller “Dark Matter” starring Joel Edgerton alongside Academy Award® winner Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley. Based on the blockbuster book by New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch, the new, nine-episode Apple Original series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Wednesday, May 8, on Apple TV+, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through June 26, 2024.

Today, the 48th annual Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) announced its lineup of Creative Conference panels, workshops, and conversations that will take place from Tuesday, April 30 – Friday, May 3, 2024. This will be the 14th year that ATLFF has curated a robust lineup of educational programming, known as the Creative Conference, as part of the annual film festival. This year, the Creative Conference will offer 32 in-person panels during the 11-day festival and 12 virtual panels post festival.
The Creative Conference serves to educate, entertain, engage, and enlighten festival-goers by pulling back the curtain on film and television production. Festival filmmakers share how their projects got made, and industry professionals discuss their craft and the future of the industry. While offering a wide variety of topics, the conference spotlight is on acting, directing, and producing in Georgia.
“This year’s Creative Conference explores building community, developing homegrown projects, and supporting emerging filmmakers from development to post production,” said Linda Burns, a 30-year industry veteran and Creative Conference Director. “We’re excited to offer interactive events with Art of the Pitch and Crowdfunding to Build Independence from Emily Best at Seed&Spark, Improv: Learning to Pivot while Producing from Dad’s Garage, and the wildly popular and epic literary battle Write Club will wrap up the Creative Conference on Friday afternoon.”
Panels feature revealing conversations with some of the most admired and sought-after artists in their respective fields. Highlights include a discussion on the Art of Casting with Casting Society members Erica A. Hart (We Strangers, A Black Lady Sketch Show, That Damn Michael Che), Kate Geller (Bob Trevino Likes It, Molly and Max, Shiva Baby), and Rori Bergman (Powerbook III: Raising Kanan, Rabbit Hole, Retribution). Additionally, Production Designer Christopher Glass joins Molly Coffee, the Creative Director of Film Impact Georgia, for a 1-on-1 conversation about his career, his process, and how he gets the look that defines his projects including Ms Marvel, Amazing Stories, and The Jungle Book. SAG Actors Nelson Bonilla (Sacrifice, Ozark, Buried in Barstow), Mike Pniewski (Hightown, The Good Fight, Madam Secretary), Sharon Conley (Perimeter, NCIS: New Orleans, Rectify), Christina Kari (Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Queen Sugar), Kurt Yue (Will Trent, Haunted Mansion, General Hospital) and Donielle Hansley (Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead, BMF, Terror Lake Drive) share career advice, how they got their start, and how to build long term relationships in the industry. And panelists Nikka Duarte (Netflix’s The Liberator, Jeb Stuart’s Takeover, George RR Martin’s Night of the Cooters), and Glen Owen (Signing Day) will explore how to develop, pitch, raise funds, and sell original stories produced in Georgia.
As with the lineup of 142 selected works and Marquee screenings, the 2024 Creative Conference programming will highlight underrepresented filmmakers and stories. Panel topics will explore Animation and African Filmmaking, The Journey of Making ‘Color Book’ – Our First Feature – Sponsored by MPA, The Intersection of AI and Cinema: Innovations, Ethics, and the Future, Documentary Funding with ITVS, Cutting Edge Creativity: Voices from the Black & Queer Community, Mental Health and Parenting While Filmmaking, The Directing Challenge, and Latinas in Media among others.

Today, Prime Video announced the release of Hip Hop World, a music special hosted by music industry titan Lenny Santiago, on April 16. The special follows Grammy Award-winning artist DJ Khaled and Billboard-charting recording artist Lola Brooke as they look for inspiration in the cities they explore. In the special, Khaled takes us on another inspiring trip to Jamaica for a behind the scenes look at the making of his music video for “These Streets Know My Name.” Following the special, Brooke will debut “Touch Down in Paris,” an original track exclusively on Amazon Music. Amazon Music Breakthrough Artist, Lola Brooke, who is also releasing her project Dennis Daughter (Deluxe Version) on April 19, does an intimate exploration of Paris with Lenny S. The Brooklyn born rapper, who took the world by storm in 2022 with her viral hit single “Don’t Play With It,” has always dreamed of visiting Paris and understanding the origins of rap in France. Lenny takes Lola on a tour of some of his favorite places as she finds inspiration for her Amazon Music Original track “Touch Down in Paris.” The special also introduces noted guests along the journey who help the artists find inspiration for their music including Buju Banton, Usain Bolt, Mokobe, Mr. Leggo, Jean “Biggie” Sebastian and more.
Lenny Santiago, also known as Lenny S., is a veteran music business executive with over two decades of experience in the music industry. Santiago has played a pivotal role in shaping modern hip-hop culture as we know it, most notably known for working closely with the iconic rapper Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. Lenny contributed to the A&R process for several of Jay’s multi-platinum albums, collectively amassing over 55 million records sold worldwide.
Hip Hop World is executive produced by Jason Offor and Lenny Santiago. Additionally, Steven Cantor, Jamie Schutz, and Jessica Cozzetta will serve as executive producers, along with co-executive producer John Faratzis, for Stick Figure Productions. Michael Rapino, Vaughn Trudeau, and Ryan Kroft will also be executive producers for Live Nation Productions. The special is produced by Stick Figure Productions.
Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) present a heavyweight boxing mega-event headlined by The Problem Child, Jake “El Gallo” Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) vs. the Baddest Man on the Planet, Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs). Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will stream live globally, exclusively on Netflix on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Apple TV+ has unveiled a first look at “The Big Cigar,” the highly anticipated limited drama series that chronicles the story of Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton’s escape to Cuba. Premiering globally May 17, the six-episode drama is executive produced by NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois, Jim Hecht and Joshuah Bearman. Legendary award-winning actor, producer and director Don Cheadle will direct and executive produce the first two episodes with new episodes available to stream every Friday until June 14. André Holland portrays Huey P. Newton and leads the renowned ensemble cast including Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, P. J. Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie and Glynn Turman. “The Big Cigar” is a mostly true story based on a monumental, eponymous Playboy Magazine article penned by executive producer, Joshuah Bearman (“Argo”). In the series, Black Panther Party founder Newton escapes from the FBI to Cuba with the assistance of famed Hollywood producer Bert Schneider. The impossibly elaborate plan turns into a wild caper and involves a fake movie production gone wrong every way it possibly can!
On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Crystal Renee Hayslett hosted a live podcast episode of her widely popular podcast, Keep It Positive, Sweetie, to a SOLD OUT audience of 600 people in Atlanta, GA. The show was attended by special guests including Skyh Black + KJ Smith, Todd Galberth, Kimberly Blackwell, Isaac Carree, Nzinga Imani, Chido Nwokocha, Dharius + Shameka Daniels. Crystal created an atmosphere that many of the guests likened to popular talk shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Real — chatting about fun topics and leading important conversations, while fostering a safe, enlightening space for the entire audience.

The evening began with a conversation between Crystal and her therapist, Delena Zimmerman, where they discussed self-love, growth, and finding your purpose. Crystal was then joined on stage by Eva Marcille, Devon Franklin, and David + Tamela Mann; the group delved into relationships at different stages and phases. Eva and Devon spoke on how they navigate life after divorce, David and Tamela spoke about their thriving 36-year marriage.
Crystal then rocked the stage with a comforting jam session alongside a live band. She surprised the audience with her dynamic artistry, beginning her performance on the piano — playing the first few bars of “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Crystal transitioned into a medley of“Made for Me” by Muni Long, “Snooze” by SZA, and “I Was Here” by Beyonce. The medley ended with Crystal singing “The Goodness of God” by Cece Winans. To close out this special experience, Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry came onstage to pray over Crystal and share a few words on how proud of her he is.
