Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was indicted Friday on charges that he struck his young son with a switch in Texas, according to a person in the NFL familiar with the situation.

A grand jury in Montgomery County returned the indictment Friday afternoon, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Peterson allegedly struck his young son, who spent the summer with the All-Pro running back in Texas, with a switch, according to the NFL source. The Vikings knew of the incident for several weeks, but thought Peterson had been cleared of all criminal charges, the source said.

The abuse allegations surfaced shortly after the child returned to his mother’s Minnesota home, according to the source, who said a doctor noticed “a mark” caused by a switch during a routine appointment.

  1. my son will be getting his legs smacked when he acts up. I’m not putting up with it. I’m not using any belts or switches because times have changed and georgia will put you under the jail!

  2. Stone Stafford I agree. this is a difficult case because how people were raised. some will say what we are saying and some will say it’s abuse. maybe he whooped him before but this time he went in too far and the mother reported it. I just think this is difficult. some parents don’t use any kind of spanking in the household so they will be all over him

  3. Kingsmen White I think that was unnecessary! The child was too small for that! I got wooped with a switch too, but I was like 10 or 11! This kid looks no older than 6 or 7!

  4. Yelling at your sig other is now domestic violence/abuse. Look at Chicago. No discipline for the kids, and babies raising babies. Its now a war zone. The children need discipline.

  5. Forgive me if I interpreted your comment wrong. This topic truly heats meet up. We are raising wussy’s who won’t be able to handle any kind of challenge or hardship in life because we are trying to protect them so much

  6. Keith Mikell it’s making it hard on the NFL because a lot of negative press for the largest sports network. Plus the NFL is scrambling now to try to find the proper punishment for guys that get in trouble
