We come together before you on this day, March 30 2015, with one voice in unity, in the hopes that today will be another one of those moments in time. A moment that will forever change the course of music history. For today, we announce the launch of Tidal, the first ever artist owned, global music and entertainment platform.
Our goal is simple. We want to create a better service and a better experience for both fans and artists. And that is our promise to the world. Our mission goes beyond commerce. It goes beyond technology. Our intent is to preserve music’s importance in our lives.
Music is the language of love, of laughter, of heartbreak, of mystery. It’s the world’s true, without question, universal language. There’s not a soul living that can deny its impact.
No matter who we are or where we’re from or what we listen to, music speaks to all of us. It inspires us. It makes our heart beat faster and body move in ways we didn’t even know it could move. Music brings us together. It connects us all, and it’s giving us experiences that last a lifetime…
Music is so powerful. That is what Tidal will be. It’s a place for connection between artists and fans where we will deliver exclusive experiences that will be found nowhere else. A destination where we will discover the music that will become the soundtrack to the rest of our lives.
We have joined in Tidal for the preservation of an industry, to deliver music and experiences in a way that is best for the consumer. That is why Tidal is dedicated to cultivating a sound business enterprise that promotes the health and sustainability of our art and our industry around the world.
We believe that it is in everyone’s interest – fans, artists, and the industry as a whole – to preserve the value of music and to insure a healthy and robust industry for years to come. Today is the day that we begin that journey together. All of us as one.
Like he said, I’m not a businessman, I’m a business man…..”
This is huge artist finally get to own 100% rights to their music.
Jay is a good business man.but really it’s the folks behind him tell him what n where to put his money..
Sit down jz
Aw yeah he charge $19.99 a month.
Right bro and that’s why Taylor swift left them. They get a couple stacks in ad money for every million streams and j think the artist should get a nice cut of that.
Amen
Record Labels are on the way to extinction! Another game changer!
I’ll hit your inbox. But that would be the best way to do it Kingsmen White, for free. The only problem I have is relying on advertising revenue like Google does is risky. Their main stream of revenue is like 90 percent something advertising, but then again their “Google” lol they have enough cash now where they can create a diversified portfolio of other business investments like they did with Android. I know Jay Z did his homework on these cats when spending $56 mill. that’s why I think it will be a success either way. Some ppl are simply blessed where anything they put their hands on turns to Gold.
I own a digital company for film&tv something like netflix and you are correct we make a killing off of the ads and downloads so having stock in this company I feel will also make a good extra revenue even if its going to be free.
Danny Newman I also need your #. I haven’t had a chance to chop it up in awhile bro
Danny Newman I would make if FREE like Facebook and I wouldn’t charge a premium. I would just make millions off the advertising/ads on the page and give the artist a cut. No more publishing companies and labels involved.
Autumn Essie Bailey-Ford in the next few yrs music will be free and they will get paid off of the advertising on the site from view and downloads.
I love it and I am buying stock. I think its a smart business move.
Willie Fountain give me an example of a starving artist and why do you think they are starving?
Makin them richer , an the starving artist will still be starvin.
H3 ju5t h@v3 That Gift!!
Off of Spotify’s website. There’s is alot more cheaper though. Competition is at hand
Been telling people since noticing the demise of tapes and disc and apple eliminating the disc player on computers. Great move
I think Jay is a very business savvy. More importantly, it was a smart move in wanting to capture part of the digital streaming market share by owing a part of its distribution channel. It’s only right that artist get paid for their creative work in music. Allowing these artist a platform to recoup loss revenues and profits due to freemium services like Spotify and others. At the same time, he will have to compete with some big players who have the resourses and capabilities which is experience, expertise, and the know-how such as Pandora, YouTube(owned by Google), and Apple. At the same time, by acuiring Tidal whose strategy has been to charge a premium for subscription, I think Jay may want to consider to either match or even reduce that the subscription in order to attract more customers, increase market share, and undercut the competition. Just like the game lol but serious. Face it, the fact of the matter is why buy it when its free. He probablly will need to also partner or create strategic alliances with other companies that have the expertise and proven track record of success in this business as well. More importantly, Tidal will need to project the Jay Z/Beyonce brand and advertise and market the company in that light. At the end of the day, I trust his decision making and think he will make the right moves.
I love Jay frm jump
Kendrick Lamar got more streaming out of his album and actually got paid for it….
Genius move
Right bro
Genius
He is TRULY one hell of a businessman, Kingsmen White. With the launching of this project coupled with the purchase of Tupac’s music, I feel VERY confident that Ms. Shakur is going to be well taken care of. #BeingHopeful
