Babyface to Receive BMI Icon Award at the 2024 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Award

BMI announced today that GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter and producer Babyface will receive the BMI Icon Award at the 2024 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, on Thursday, September 5. This honor recognizes his impressive career, marked by a formidable catalog of hit songs that have transcended generations and connected with audiences around the globe. In addition, GRAMMY Award-winning singer/songwriter SZA will be presented with the BMI Champion Award in honor of her dedication and efforts in fostering the next generation of music creators. Hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton, the private event will return to Los Angeles, CA for the first time in nearly ten years to be held at Fairmont Century Plaza.

Throughout the evening, BMI will also salute the songwriters, producers and music publishers of the past year’s 35 most-performed R&B/Hip-Hop songs from BMI’s repertoire of more than 22.4 million musical works. The BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter, Top Producers, Producer and Publisher of the Year will also be named during the ceremony.

As one of the most sought-after songwriters and producers of our time, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds has contributed to over 800 million records sold and over 800 billion streams and has worked with the biggest names in music like Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Kenny G, Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, and Barbra Streisand to name a few. As the co-founder of the legendary LaFace Records, he’s helped launch the careers of Toni Braxton, P!nk, TLC, Outkast, Usher and more. When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Portman), a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson (Ingram), a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. TARAJI P. HENSON RETURNS TO HOST “BET AWARDS” 2024

Today, BET announces Academy Award® nominated and Golden Globe® winning actor, author, director, producer, and philanthropist Taraji P. Henson will return to host “BET Awards” 2024 LIVE from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. GRAMMY® award winning global entertainment icon USHER will be honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement BET Award. Previously announced performers included GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, and Victoria Monét. “BET Awards” 2024, will air LIVE on Sunday, June 30, 2023, on BET at 8 PM ET/ PT.

If you’ve been missing that good feeling you got when you watched 90’s comedies, BounceTV has something coming for you. Earlier today we met with producers, executives and actors from the new Bounce comedy series, “Mind Your Business”, and we’ve got to say. This one is definitely going to deliver.

“Mind Your Business” is the brainchild of Bentley Evans, who’s also responsible for hit shows like “The Jamie Foxx Show” and “Martin”. That’s why “Mind Your Business” feels like something that needs to be watched as a family, with everybody in one room, laughing at another family’s antics. “Mind Your Business” isn’t just a good concept, it has a star-studded lineup to match! The series stars Columbus Short (“Scandal”, “Stomp the Yard”), Drew Sidora (“CRAZYSEXYCOOL: The TLC Story”), Rolanda Watts (“The Rolonda Watts Show”, “Criminal Minds”), Brely Evans (“The Neighborhood”, “The Family Business”) and gospel star BeBe Winans. All of these greats, along with Caryn Ward Ross (“Jane the Virgin”), Bryce Xavier and Chloe Elise Ellis, are a part of the hilarious Williams family.

“This is a project that I’m proud of,” remarked Short “It has that old sitcom feel that ‘Martin’ had.” Short says that his character and Evans’ character have the same type of “love hate” relationship that Martin and Pam had and that adds to the show.

The series synopsis says:

Like a lot of small businesses, Lucille Williams’ (Watts) once-prospering 30s-and-older lounge, Lucille’s Place, took a huge hit, forcing her to sell. Lucille’s baby brother, Henry Williams (Winans), couldn’t stand by and let Lucille’s Place slip away, so he recruited his fraternal twins, Aaliyah (Sidora) and Alfonso (Short), to keep the business in the family. With Aaliyah’s creative sensibilities and Alfonso’s business mind, a safe space for planning and hosting events was born. Alfonso’s wife, Kimberly (Ward Ross), and son, Alfonso Jr. (A.J.), join the event planning team. Even Aaliyah has one of their chosen family members, Mia (Evans), join the team; she is a jack of all trades – so she thinks. Although the new-and-improved “Lucille’s” brings everyone together, their affairs end up causing a mess bigger than a college frat party.

To say that Winans and Watts are perfectly cast is an understatement. Watts, who has played comedic characters previously, slips right into the role of the family’s matriarch, Lucille, offering unsolicited advice and over-stepping boundaries just like a lot of us are used to. Winans’ performance is so different than what he’s known for. When I asked him where he drew his inspiration from he said “To know my family, is to know sarcasm” he continued with a laugh saying “This character is just like my father. I read the script and said ‘Oh, I’ll just act like my Dad!’” Let’s hope Pop Winans wasn’t quite as bad as Henry.

In blood-soaked Tudor England, twice married, accomplished, and educated Katherine Parr (Vikander), reluctantly agrees to become the sixth wife of the tyrannical King Henry VIII (Law). Her consent to marry him carries great personal risk, given that her predecessors are either vanquished, beheaded, or dead. When Henry appoints her as Regent, the nation’s ruler during his absence when he departs to fight overseas, he lays a dangerous path for her. Henry’s courtiers, suspecting she’s sympathetic to radical Protestant beliefs that have taken root in the kingdom and are a threat to their power, scheme against her and cast doubts upon her fidelity to the increasingly ailing and paranoid King. Once Henry returns to England, his courtiers convince him to turn his fury on the nation’s radicals, including Katherine’s childhood friend Anne Askew, who becomes one of the scores of people convicted of treason and burned at the stake. Horrified and privately grieving, Katherine finds herself under ever-increasing scrutiny and suspicion. Knowing that even a whisper of scandal might lead to her downfall, Katherine must unleash her own scheme to fight for survival.

Apple TV+ series “Masters Of The Air” FYC Live Orchestra Screening and Q+A

This weekend at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles, Apple TV+ held a live orchestra screening and Q+A FYC event for “Masters Of The Air,” featuring Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Branden Cook, Josiah Cross, director Dee Rees, and executive producer Gary Goetzman.

Based on Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.

Ranging in location from the bucolic fields and villages of southeast England, to the harsh deprivations of a German prisoner-of-war camp, and depicting a unique and crucial time in world history, “Masters of the Air” is enormous in both scale and scope, and a genuine cinematic achievement.

This noteworthy charity event is scheduled for Sunday, May 19th, 2024, at 11:30 AM, at the esteemed Beverly Wilshire Hotel, A Four Seasons. The event celebrates exceptional individuals who have contributed significantly to their respective fields and communities.

Renowned national broadcast news anchor Pat Harvey from CBS 2 & KCAL 9 News is all set to host an inspiring afternoon that will bring out generosity in everyone. The event will include a silent auction, which will be hosted by award-winning comedian and actressKym Whitley. In addition, Summer Colony Living will present a live fashion show. Tamera Mowry-Housley, a multi-talented Emmy Award-winning host, author, actress, producer, and entrepreneur, has been named the recipient of this year’s Trailblazer Award for her outstanding contributions to promoting women’s health and wellness. In addition to her successful acting career, Tamera has utilized her platform to advocate for inclusivity and empowerment within her community. This prestigious award is given to those who set an example by taking action and inspiring change, particularly in areas that foster inclusivity, equality, and empowerment for underrepresented groups.

His work extends to collaborating with corporate executives and suppliers to implement advertising inventory and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Tamera is an Emmy Award-winning host, author, actress, producer, and entrepreneur who has captivated audiences for over 30 years.

Tamera started her career in Hollywood alongside her sister, Tia, on the hit show Sister, Sister, which aired over 100 episodes from 1994-1999 and has gone on to see a cultural revival over the past few years since it was released on Netflix. Apple TV+ today unveiled the trailer for the third season of “Acapulco,” the global hit bilingual comedy series starring and executive produced by Emmy and SAG-Award winner Eugenio Derbez. “Acapulco” returns for season three with the first two episodes debuting globally on Wednesday, May 1, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through June 26.

In season three of “Acapulco,” it’s time to reconcile past mistakes and exciting new beginnings. In the present story, older Máximo (Derbez) finds himself returning to a Las Colinas he no longer recognizes. While in 1985, younger Máximo (Enrique Arrizon) continues his climb up the ladder of success while potentially jeopardizing all the relationships he’s worked so hard to build.

2024 Atlanta Film Festival Announces Creative Conference Programming

Today, the 48th annual Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) announced its lineup of Creative Conference panels, workshops, and conversations that will take place from Tuesday, April 30 – Friday, May 3, 2024. This will be the 14th year that ATLFF has curated a robust lineup of educational programming, known as the Creative Conference, as part of the annual film festival. This year, the Creative Conference will offer 32 in-person panels during the 11-day festival and 12 virtual panels post festival.

The Creative Conference serves to educate, entertain, engage, and enlighten festival-goers by pulling back the curtain on film and television production. Festival filmmakers share how their projects got made, and industry professionals discuss their craft and the future of the industry. While offering a wide variety of topics, the conference spotlight is on acting, directing, and producing in Georgia.

“This year’s Creative Conference explores building community, developing homegrown projects, and supporting emerging filmmakers from development to post production,” said Linda Burns, a 30-year industry veteran and Creative Conference Director. “We’re excited to offer interactive events with Art of the Pitch and Crowdfunding to Build Independence from Emily Best at Seed&Spark, Improv: Learning to Pivot while Producing from Dad’s Garage, and the wildly popular and epic literary battle Write Club will wrap up the Creative Conference on Friday afternoon.”
