Adrian Peterson Suspended For the Year

Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings was notified today that he has been suspended without pay for at least the remainder of the 2014 NFL season, and will not be considered for reinstatement before April 15, for violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy in an incident of abusive discipline that he inflicted on his four-year-old son last May. Peterson pled no contest on November 4 in state court in Montgomery County, Texas to reckless assault of the child.

New Deal Worth $325 Million Makes Giancarlo Stanton Highest Paid Athlete

The Miami Marlins have locked up star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton for the long haul, to the tune of a 13-year, $325 million contract extension.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported Monday that the two sides have agreed to the terms of the new deal, which the team will announce Wednesday morning. Sources told Heyman that the contract includes a no-trade clause. Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald later confirmed the report.

ST. LOUIS • A St. Louis woman was sentenced Friday to 78 years in prison after admitting to beating, whipping and waterboarding her children in a prolonged pattern of abuse that prosecutors described as “systematic torture.”

Lakechia Schonta Stanley, 34, of St. Louis, faced 34 felonies, including multiple counts of assault and endangering the welfare of a child, for the abuse which was reported to a school librarian in October 2011.
