Jay Z’s Tidal could lose Beyoncé if it doesn’t pay Sony big bucks

Bloomberg’s insider sources say that both Sony and Warner have been asking Tidal for huge advances in exchange for the rights to stream their artists’ catalogs. While Tidal has apparently come to an agreement with Warner, it seems the Sony deal isn’t done yet — and if Tidal can’t find the cash to pay its requested royalties, it could lose the music of Beyoncé, who just happens to be one of Tidal’s flagship artists along with being Jay Z’s wife.

LUCIFER Trailer

Fox has released the first trailer for Lucifer.
Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, Lucifer is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell,Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis, Merlin) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.

httpv://youtu.be/X4bF_quwNtw

Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him – as well as his best friend and confidante, Mazikeen aka Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt, The Librarians), a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman.
The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective Chloe Dancer (Lauren German, Chicago Fire), who initially is dismissive of Lucifer. But she becomes intrigued by his talent for drawing out people’s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it. As they work together to solve the pop star’s murder, Lucifer is struck by Chloe’s inherent goodness. Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe’s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet.
At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel Amenadiel (DB Woodside, Suits, 24), has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld…can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?

50 Cent Talks ‘Empire’ and ‘Power’

“Yeah, and it’s become something completely different. It’s almost like they cast people who were musically talented, who they could turn into stars in the process—and also create another revenue space for the television show, to profit on the sales of the actual records that they sell. They’re doing a push like that. Like at the Billboard Awards they had that guy [Jussie Smollett] perform. That’s what I identify with, him actually being a vocalist, because he was good. Then you go: OK, that casting was, “Can you sing? OK. Now, can you act?”” (Salon)

Cleveland officer found not guilty in fatal shooting of two people

A Cleveland police officer was acquitted today for his role in the 2012 fatal shooting of two unarmed people in a car after officers mistook the sound of the car backfiring as gunshots.
After a four-week trial, a judge found officer Michael Brelo, 31, not guilty of two counts of felony voluntary manslaughter in the deaths of Timothy Russell, 43, and Malissa Williams, 30. Russell and Williams were killed Nov. 29, 2012, after they led 62 police vehicles on a chase across Cleveland.
Prosecutions of officers for the use of deadly force are rare given there have been thousands of fatal police shootings in the past decade. When criminal charges have been pursued, officers have most often been acquitted or cleared, according to a recent analysis by The Washington Post in conjunction with criminologist Philip M. Stinson and researchers at Bowling Green University.

Jay Z and Beyoncé Joint Album Coming to Tidal

Music streaming service Tidal’s senior executive Vania Schlogel recently talked about the company’s launch and the idea of a joint Jay Z and Beyoncé Knowles-Carteralbum being exclusively launched under its watch.

“I don’t think we will disappoint our fans and our subscribers. I think it’s going to be really exciting, because the artists do feel like they have the ability to collaborate and work with each other. They all work as a team. The other exciting piece of it is Tidal Rising which we launched a week or two ago. Tidal Rising is us putting a spotlight on indie and emerging artists. There’s going to be continued collaborations around that too. It’s not just going to be the 16 artists on stage. It’s basically going to be a creative hub. Tidal Discovery, which will be launching within the next week, that’s going to allow any artist, signed or not, to upload their music to Tidal.” (Digital Trends)

Jas Prince Loses $4Million Lawsuit Against Cash Money

A federal court judge presiding over Jas Prince’s lawsuit against Cash Money has dismissed the case, as shown in documents obtained by the Jasmine Brand.

Last year, Jas Prince filed a lawsuit claiming that back in 2007 his company, Young Empire Music Group, originally discovered Drake and would eventually sign him to Aspire Music Group.

When Cash Money approached them with the desire to sign Drake, Jas Prince agreed, but with the stipulation that 22% of all Drake’s advances, net profits and other advances would be paid to Prince and to his company.

Last Friday (May 8), the judge returned his decision, ruling that the signed deal excluded Jas and his music company, but it did include Aspire. Therefore, the federal court judge agreed to dismiss the lawsuit against Cash Money.

Tom Brady suspended four games for Deflategate

The New England Patriots were notified today of the following discipline that has been imposed for violations of the NFL Policy on Integrity of the Game and Enforcement of Competitive Rules relating to the use of under-inflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game of this past season:

For the violation of the playing rules and the failure to cooperate in the subsequent investigation, the New England Patriots are fined $1 million and will forfeit the club’s first-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft and the club’s fourth-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. If the Patriots have more than one selection in either of these rounds, the earlier selection shall be forfeited. The club may not trade or otherwise encumber these selections.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft advised Commissioner Roger Goodell last week that Patriots employees John Jastremski and James McNally have been indefinitely suspended without pay by the club, effective on May 6th. Neither of these individuals may be reinstated without the prior approval of NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent. If they are reinstated by the Patriots, Jastremski is prohibited from having any role in the preparation, supervision, or handling of footballs to be used in NFL games during the 2015 season. McNally is barred from serving as a locker room attendant for the game officials, or having any involvement with the preparation, supervision, or handling of footballs or any other equipment on game day.

George Zimmerman involved in Florida shooting

Police in Lake Mary, Florida, a suburb of Orlando, said they were investigating the shooting, according to police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett.

WFTV said Zimmerman was shot in the face and WESH-TV in Orlando said the wound was minor.

Police said it appeared to be a “road-rage incident,” according to the FOX 35 television station in Orlando.

A bullet hole could be seen in the passenger window of Zimmerman’s vehicle, WESH reported.

Witnesses told the television station that a man appearing to be Zimmerman was able to walk normally into an ambulance.

Zimmerman, 31, a former Florida neighborhood watch volunteer, was acquitted of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin in 2012, an incident that prompted civil rights rallies and drew international attention to Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law.

Tom Brady is a Cheater! What’s a Good Punishment for This????

The NFL has finished its investigation into the New England Patriots and concluded that the team likely intentionally broke league rules and deflated footballs used in the AFC title game.

The league’s evidence against Brady centers on three main points: 1) his reaction to the condition of game balls used in a Week 7 game against the New York Jets in October, 2) how he interacted with McNally and Jastremski following subsequent games, and 3) how he communicated with the two after Deflategate exploded.
