Jay Z agrees to Pay Musician Half of Royalties for BORROWED Music

The piano and saxophone player accused Jay of using his instrumental “On The Way” for the Magna Carta Holy Grail track. The two parties were engaged in an 18-month legal fight over the song until Jay reportedly admitted to lifting the tune a few months ago.

In January 2014, Spoerri told SwissInfo he believed the Brooklyn emcee could have gotten permission to use “On The Way” for “Versus” if he would have simply asked.

“In a way I’m flattered that a relatively young rapper takes a sample from an old man, a sample that is about 35 years old,” said Spoerri. “On the other hand I’m furious because it would have been so simple to clear the sample. All it would have needed was a call or an email to the company and I think it would have been relatively cheap.”

Timbaland is credited as the producer on “Versus.” The song also samples A Tribe Called Quest’s “Sucka N***a.”

Police Make Statement After Shots Reported at Lil Wayne’s Home

On Wednesday afternoon, police descended upon the Miami Beach home of Lil Wayne after receiving a phone call alleging that shots were fired at his residence.

“At 12:40 in the afternoon we received a call on a non-emergency line. The individual advised us he had shot four people [at the residence] and requested police assistance. At this point we have not located any victims.”

After Miami police surrounded the rapper’s home for more than an hour, Ernesto Rodriquez — a rep for Miami police — made a brief statement to the media at the scene. “At 12:40 in the afternoon we received a call on a non-emergency line. The individual advised us he had shot four people [at the residence] and requested police assistance. At this point we have not located any victims.”

Rodriguez specified that the SWAT team has not entered Wayne’s residence. The Miami PD acknowledged that “swatting” — making an emergency prank call to police — is a possibility.

Young Money tweeted that Lil Wayne is “okay” and was not at his home during “alleged events.”

Young Money president Mack Maine tweeted this:

How I Feel about ‘Empire’

Last night I had a chance to catch up on all the episodes of EMPIRE and this is what I think of the show:

Gay show??

No I don’t think it’s a gay show and I don’t think the gay scenes over power the whole show. I think showing the father’s reaction to having a gay son is keeping real. I also think that they touched on the feelings of what I gay kid has to go through growing up in a home where dad didn’t want anything to do with it.

Degrading to the black community ??

Yes I believe a lot of the show is portraying us a certain way but I also understand the concept of the show where they are trying to be wolves in this music industry because this industry will EAT YOU ALIVE!!!

This show is also based on coming from the drug industry to starting a music business so a lot iof the personalities of the characters have to fit that street and hood mentality to make it more believable.

50 cent saying it reminds him of Glee???

I understand what he is saying because we want all the drama to be gritty and real but we also have to remember that it has to fit TV and it has to have some dramatic over the top acting to make it fit with these other tv shows that are taking over the ratings!

Will I continue to watch???

Yes! Just don’t shove too much of the gay stuff in my face and keep it about the music business and i think it’s pretty good!

Diddy is Headed Back to the Studio

Yes the rumors are true. It’s been a long time since I had been really focused on producing music. My first love. Is the type of love that Will never go away! So I’ve come back for 12 months only ! So I’m working on Kanye West LOS GIZZLE THE LOX @kingpush @asapferg @cassie @abelxo and many more announcements to come! I’m back behind this BOARD B!!!!!!!!!

Angie Stone, a Grammy-nominated singer who rose to fame with R&B hits such as “Brotha,” “No More Rain” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” was arrested in DeKalb County after police say she struck her 30-year-old daughter with a metal stand and knocked out the woman’s front teeth.

According to a DeKalb County police incident report, Angie Stone said Diamond Stone hit her in the face with closed fists first. Diamond Stone and Blondy Chisolm, a family friend who witnessed the Monday night altercation, told police they were not sure who threw the first blow.

Jury Finds Pharrell and Thicke GUILTY!!

Los Angeles jury found Tuesday that Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke’s 2013 hit “Blurred Lines” infringed upon the copyright for Marvin Gaye’s 1977 “Got to Give It Up” and awarded $7.3 million to Gaye’s family.

The Gayes’ attorney, Richard Busch, told reporters that he had immediately filed for an injunction to stop the sale of “Blurred Lines.”

SAE  Fraternity in Oklahoma Shut Down after RACIST Video

Students marched on the campus of the University of Oklahoma on Monday to protest a video apparently showing Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity members at the Norman campus participating in a racist chant.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s national headquarters said Sunday night that an investigation had validated the contents of a video showing multiple people chanting a racial slur against blacks and indicating that blacks would never be admitted to the fraternity’s chapter in Norman. The chant also references lynching.

SAE said the fraternity chapter at the school has been closed and its members suspended from the national organization.

“We apologize for the unacceptable and racist behavior of the individuals in the video, and we are disgusted that any member would act in such a way,” the national fraternity said in a statement. “Furthermore, we are embarrassed by this video and offer our empathy not only to anyone outside the organization who is offended but also to our brothers who come from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities.

On Monday, the building had been vandalized with graffiti. On one side of the building, in huge letters, was written “Tear it D.” Two unidentified chapter members told The Oklahoma Daily, the student newspaper, that they had received death threats.

The video was posted online by a black student group at OU, Unheard. It wasn’t immediately clear how it was obtained.

University President David Boren Tweeted a statement condemning the video and saying the university was investigating.

“I have been informed of the video, which shows students engaging in a racist chant. We are investigating to determine if the video involved OU students,” Boren said. “If OU students are involved, this behavior will not be tolerated and will be addressed very quickly. If the reports are true, the chapter will no longer remain on campus. This behavior is reprehensible and contrary to all of our values.”

The national fraternity’s decision to close came on the same day thousands of people gathered in Selma, Ala., to mark the 50th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” a day in 1965 when peaceful protesters marching for voting rights were beaten by police.

Allen Iverson Stashes Away $32 Million But Can’t Touch It Until He’s 55

Iverson Photo credit: Kingsmen Media

A person with a firm grip on the situation informs me Iverson has an account worth $32 million, a principal he is prohibited from touching until 55. In the meantime, it feeds him $1 million annually.

At 45, Iverson is eligible to start drawing on an NBA pension that maxes out at 10 years of active duty, or take whatever’s there as lump sum. He will be entitled roughly to $8,000 per month ($800 per x 10).

If at all possible, Iverson will issue a restraining order against himself until he’s 62 or so. At that time, I’m told, his lump sum will be between $1.5 million and $1.8 million, or he can elect to take monthly checks of approximately $14,000 per.

The smart friend realized if Iverson was just free to spend the money he would burn through it so he took some of it and set it up long term for him.

The $32 million is known as the “Reebok fund” among Iverson’s friends, because the money came from shoe deals.

50 Cent’s Son Sire Jackson  $700,000 Modeling Deal

I have so much fun with him, man. even my spirit change. I light up when I talk about him. He’s at that point where he repeats everything. He’s got a [modeling] deal now with Kidz Safe. It’s an audio company. They paid him a big payment too, $700,000. He’s super cute! You gotta pay for it.

[The money] goes into a trust. He can’t even touch it until he turns 18. He’ll get $700,000 to be the face of the company. Already, he’s making his own money! He makes his own money! I was ready to say, ‘This is your college fund.’ But I gotta handle that part and let him have the [$700,000].

50 Cent Responds to Vivica Fox Calling Him “The Love Of My Life”

“I saw that. I was like wow… At this point [I was surprised],” said 50 about Fox’s statement. “I didn’t know the [2003 MTV Video Music Awards] was going to publicly marry us. She knew better than I did what was going to happen. When the train is taking off without you, you kind of feel uncomfortable… You don’t get to that point where the public is perceiving it… Women have the ability to be more advanced than men emotionally.”

$100,000 for Front Row Seats at Mayweather/Pacquiao Fight

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s showdown in Las Vegas is the hottest ticket in town, which means that even if you’re an A-list superstar, there’s no chance you’ll be getting a comped VIP ticket to the event.

Those hoping for the front row, VIP experience can apparently expect to see tickets going for around $100,000—but if a celebrity wants to go for free, they’re going to have be, as TMZ put it, “a walking billboard”:

But we’ve learned there’s another option. If a celeb is willing to endorse companies by wearing logo-emblazoned gear at the fight — that company will eat the ticket cost.

For instance, we’re told VOCO Vodka & Coconut Water has already made such offers to Leo [Leonardo di Caprio], RiRi [Rihanna], and Big Willie [Will Smith] … in exchange for front row seats.

Chris Brown a Father???

proud father of a 9-month-old baby girl … TMZ has learned.

The baby’s mother is a 31-year-old former model named Nia — who we’re told has known Chris for several years.

Sources connected to both Nia and Chris tell us they are on very good terms — however they’re not together romantically. We’re told 25-year-old Chris is happy about being a father.

It does not appear there is a formal child support order in place — and we do not know the nature of any informal terms of support.

One thing’s for sure … baby girl looks a lot like Daddy.

Rich Homie Quan is Cool with Other Races Using the N-Word

“I feel good, man, because it’s that kind of trap that we want people to do,” Homie said when asked about his take on fans rapping to his “My N*gga” song. “It’s almost like cross-over music. I feel good. I don’t really look at nothing by it. It’s good. You make music so people can recite it and that’s what they’re doing, they’re reciting the song. … I wouldn’t say racism is worse in the South because it was so hard in the South, I think people are very nice in the South now and don’t want to go back to those days. I’ve seen very little racism since I’ve been living.” (VLAD TV)

Kanye West Reveals New Album Title ‘So Help Me God’

Kanye West has spent the past week in Europe promoting an “80-percent done” new album that didn’t have an album title or a release date. However, the rapper cleared up one of those questions last night on Twitter when he revealed that his upcoming Yeezus follow-up would be titled So Help Me God. West’s tweet was accompanied by an image that could be So Help Me God‘s album cover: a diamond shape connected at the points by four lower-case m’s that Reddit discovered is a 13th century monastic symbol for the Virgin Mary.

‘Empire’ Character Lucious Lyon Was Inspired By Jay Z

Turns out that Taraji P. Henson’s Empire character Cookie isn’t the only one inspired some of the finest in hip-hop. The show’s creator Danny Strong has revealed that Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, is based off of Jay Z.

During a visit to Sway in the Morning, Strong and Sway addressed the negative feedback the show has gotten for the stereotypical aspects of some of the characters’ story lines, like Lucious being a drug dealer-turned-music mogul.

“I’ve heard that, but there’s certainly some truth in that,” Strong said. “The Jay Z story, which very much inspired Lucious Lyon, certain elements of Lucious Lyon, was that story.”  He continued “So for me, I don’t think in terms of  ‘Okay we have to be careful of certain things because of certain negative stereotypes’. I view it as the entire cast is African-American [so] we’re gonna have all different types of characters and we’re gonna tell good stories. We’re not gonna sit here and play defense or think that our show is a representation as Black culture in its entirety. It’s not; it’s just this story.”

Iggy Azalea says The HipHop Industry is Mad and can’t Accept that…….

“They know, deep down. I think they know. They just don’t want to admit it. That’s what I think. I have a feeling. That’s why they’re mad. Because they do know that I actually am good, and they can’t really accept that. But we could be friends, and this could all be easy. Or we could not, and I could send Bitcoin sh*t chocolate boxes to your door. But I’m still going to be here.” (“Zach Sang & The Gang”)

Southwest will continue to Fly Planes without Inspections

The carrier worked out an unusual deal with the FAA

Southwest Airlines jets will continue flying over the next few days despite missing scheduled inspections.

The low-cost carrier failed to perform required rudder checks on 128 of its planes, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Federal Aviation Administration, though, agreed to let the aircraft keep flying for five days while the inspections are completed between routes.

Southwest told the FAA on Tuesday afternoon that it missed the inspections. It then took the jets out of service voluntarily, resulting in 80 cancelled flights. By early Wednesday morning, the FAA and Southwest had worked out a plan to allow the aircraft back in the skies while the inspections were done.

Minimal disruption of Southwest’s flight schedule is expected for Wednesday.

Louis Farrakhan Speaks On Rappers and the Color of Your….:

During his Saviours’ Day 2015 keynote address in Chicago, Farrakhan discussed having a conversation with Kanye. The Minister later added he met West’s wife Kim Kardashian and daughter North as well.

“The rappers rapped on the condition of the hood. But they’re all becoming conscious now, and White folks are upset,” Farrakhan told the audience at  the Christ Universal Temple. “I had a talk with Kanye West. He visited me at our farm, just he. We had a good talk. I know that there’s a better world coming. I know that there’s a world coming that the color of your skin – as Dr. King said – is not going to be the ticket in. It’s your desire to do righteousness.”

Kanye and Farrakhan are also working on a film project together. West announced he was creating a documentary about the Million Man March organizer’s musical history.

Epic Says it’s NOT their Responsibility to Bail Out Artist

Shmurda’s entertainment lawyer Matthew Middleton spoke with the New York Times. Middleton expressed Epic is not required to offer bail money for its artists, but Bobby expected more financial and emotional support than he has received from the label.

“These companies for years have capitalized and made millions and millions of dollars from kids in the inner city portraying their plight to the rest of the world,” said Middleton. “To take advantage of that and exploit it from a business standpoint and then turn your back is disingenuous, to say the least.”

The seriousness of the allegations may be the reason Epic has decided not to back Shmurda, but Middleton points out so far there have only been accusations of crimes being committed. He also notes the label has already made a profit off its deal with Bobby.

“[Epic] made their money back at least two or three times over,” Middleton added. “I understand from a corporate standpoint that companies cannot put themselves in a position where it appears they’re supporting and condoning criminal activity. But he hasn’t been found guilty of anything yet.”

Kanye West UPSET w/ Critics After Fashion Line Diss

(null)

Everyone who is anyone has weighed in on the line.

The Washington Post said, while it was his best effort so far, he ” didn’t dazzle the eye.”

The Daily Beast said “he’s not there just yet.”

Refinery29 called it “meh.”

An Uber driver called it ” a bit frumpy.”

That criticism was echoed by legendary fashion icon and creator of New York Fashion Week Fern Mallis.

“I’m kind of over Kanye,” she told the New York Post. “I mean, I’m not a fan of his music, and the attitude and the agenda is not my style.”

In true Kanye style, however, he did not take that criticism in stride

He defended himself, his collection, and his vision on Twitter in a nine-tweet tweetstorm:

He also discussed his hardships and his difficulties entering the design world because he was “too famous.”

He then reminds Mallis that he will persevere through her criticism and he “will win.”

E! News reported that in an issue of the Hollywood Reporter set to come out Feb 27th Mo’Nique had this to say:
“I got a phone call from Lee Daniels,” said the actor. “And he said to me, ‘Mo’Nique, you’ve been blackballed.’ I said, ‘Why?’ And he said, ‘Because you didn’t play the game.’”
She also suggested that her limited roles were due to people thinking she has no tact and her response to that was:
“That’s why I have my beautiful husband because he’s so full of tact. I’m just a girl from Baltimore. But being from that place, you learn not to let anybody take advantage of you.”

Chargers, Raiders propose joint $1.7 billion stadium near LA

Two division rivals could be sharing a stadium soon. According to the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are in the beginning stages of a plan that would result in the two teams sharing a $1.7 billion stadium in Carson, Calif.

The Chargers want to stay in San Diego and the Raiders want to stay in Oakland, but if the two teams can’t get a deal done in their respective cities by the end of the year, they’re going to move forward with plans to move to LA.

The teams released a combined statement to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

“We are pursuing this stadium option in Carson for one straightforward reason: If we cannot find a permanent solution in our home markets, we have no alternative but to preserve other options to guarantee the future economic viability of our franchises,” the statement said.

The proposed stadium would be built on a 168-acre site in Carson on land that’s already been purchased by the Raiders and Chargers. The tentative plan calls for the stadium to be privately financed.

Wayne tells Rolling Stone that he and Birdman are no longer on speaking terms. “I have no words,” he says. “I’m super-numb to it, to tell you the truth.” After we talk some more, he admits that the legal wrangling has been weighing on his mind. “I’m human,” he says. “But it’s nothing that a good blunt can’t cure.” (Rolling Stone)

Wayne says that Tha Carter V, which he finished recording some time ago, is on ice for now. “It’s super-done,” he says. “Cake baked, icing on top, name on top, candles lit. I would have released it yesterday if I could. But it’s a dead subject right now. It’s a jewel in the safe. It’s that stash-house money.” (Rolling Stone)

Wiz Wants More Custody since Finding Out The ‘N-Word’ being Used in the Home

We’ve learned Wiz’s camp has put together a laundry list of complaints, including:

— Amber often stays out all night, requiring that relatives and staff take over

— The family dog eats its own feces and then licks Sebastian’s face

— When she wakes up she’ll play with the kid for 15 minutes or so and then disappear

— Amber and her mom have a volatile relationship, laced with “shouting matches and vulgar exchanges,” which upset the boy. And during the arguments the N word was hurled by Amber’s mom

Wiz has not filed legal docs to change custody, but we’re told that’s coming … which is why he’s getting relatives and others involved to help him make a case.

Rick Ross Announces “Artists First” Partnership

Earlier this evening (February 16), Maybach Music Group boss Rick Ross traveled to Atlanta to announce a new partnership with Twelve Music Group founder Dina Marto. The “Movin’ Bass” rapper and the former Island Def Jam executive have joined forces to launch the new platform Artists First.

Not only will Ross and Marto work together to discover and develop aspiring writers, producers, and performers through Artists First, the new tandem will host a talent search to find the next member of the MMG roster as well. The imprint home of Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley, and Omarion is also opening an office in Atlanta at Marto’s Twelve Studios.

“This is the new home for Maybach Music,” reveals Marto. “Their artists will be recording here. Executives will have offices here, so they can get work done while they’re in the city of Atlanta.”

Marto opened Twelve Studios in 2012. Hit singles such as Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” were produced at the site.

Why Did Diddy Pass on ‘0-100’ Beat???

Originally it was a three-minute idea that had all these different parts and I didn’t really write it with any intent of it being used, for Drake or for anyone in particular. I just kinda wrote it and gave it to Boi-1da, who was in session at the time in Miami, this was with Diddy. This was like the whole controversy of the incident. From what I understand he made the beat on the spot, played it for Diddy and Diddy passed on it, he said it wasn’t life changing enough and that was that. Then fast forward, “0 to 100″ becomes this huge hit and then there’s this weird… whatever happened there? I don’t know, but as far as I understand that’s how it went down.”

Drake’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” Expected To Open With Huge Sales Numbers

According to the site, IYRTITL could top 550,000 units sold first week. The total is remarkable considering Drake released the project without any promotion and the “mixtape” is not available for physical purchase.

There are even predictions If You’re Reading This could sell over 700,000 digital copies out the gate. That means Drake could set a new single week iTunes record, besting Beyoncé’s self-titled album haul of 618,000 in 2013. Beyoncé was also released overnight on iTunes without any promo.
